Suzie,
Dutch bikes are definitely excellent bikes. I don't know of anywhere in the states that sells crescents, though. And what I've seen they tend to be very expensive--at least in the US. But if someone has one, you are definitely right--they're great, super sturdy bikes! Thanks for the feedback.

http://www.crescent.se/

click stadscyklar/elcyklar (city bikes/ electric bikes)
at the bottom on the right click visa alla citycyklar (show all city bikes) or visa alla classiccyklar (show all classic bikes)

I have an older model that is something like the Vinga. Never had any problems with them because of my weight. Granted I don't go off-roading with it but I do hop curbs and ride it pretty hard for long distances.

I don't know if they sell them in the States. The cheaper brand of Crescent is Monark. Good, but not made as sturdy.

Suzie, It's great that you found a bike strong enough for you. I tried to research the Crescent City bike and couldn't find it--would love to know more about it. It is true that a few bikes are strong enough to hold heavy riders--usually up to 300 pounds tops. Unfortunately, the vast majority are not, and the vast majority of bike salespeople to not know how to help big riders find bikes that are strong enough for them. Joan

sorry, but I am 280+lbs and I ride a normal bike 7 months out of the year (in Sweden so no way will I ride in the winter) and I do not have a problem. These kinds of things just prey on people's insecurities to make money. I have a 28" Crescent City bike. Never had a problem. It holds up just fine.
